I hate to sound overly negative because I love the Atomi community and products but I am afraid that I am a bit of a hard sell on this particular type of product. Since it is an AI product - I want to focus on that aspect.
It seems to me that the use of an AI product like this sacrifices accuracy and quality for speed. While it was very quick and easy to have something put together, I feel that there was a tradeoff with content quality. Information seemed very surface level and sometimes not even correct or with important details not mentioned. Many points often repeated on multiple slides.
I often compare AI tools like this with text to speech applications. Text to speech applications tout how much time can be saved recording by simply uploading the text and generating a voice file. On the surface that is true but the resulting file is clearly not human and what isn’t stated is the time required to tweak the text file so that the generated speech “reads” the text correctly. In the end - you’re faster recording it in your own voice and you get a better quality sound at the same time.
Perhaps there are some industries / topics that can get by with AI generated content but when you need specialized content or high level information - AI falls short of my standard.
In one of three presentations, I tried to use the AI to make a presentation about trampolining. The AI tried to make some human performers.
This is one of the generated images. Deformed human-like bodies doing something not found in a trampoline exercise. None of the images even contained the likeness of a trampoline at all. With credit-based AI editing, you end up burning through all your credits trying to fix an image like this and still have to manually fix things.
Here is the AI generated alt-text for the image.
A dynamic and engaging image of a competitive trampolining event, showing athletes in mid-air performing acrobatic flips and twists against a backdrop of an enthusiastic audience. The athletes should be wearing colorful competition uniforms, and the atmosphere should convey excitement and energy. Include elements of a professional trampoline gym, such as high-quality trampolines, safety mats, and judges in the background, ensuring a vibrant and lively setting.
False.
On the positive side of things - the reporting was nice but unfortunately - if I was using an LMS, I am not sure I would use it since the LMS would track the quizzing already.
Some general comments / feelings
- Oh - it is cloud based - preference to local installation and storage
- Seemed like PowerPoint / Google Slides with less features - but with AI
- Not really a fan of subscription model pricing
- Even the paid subscription is limited by “AI Credits”. Trying to remake images or reword text would quicky eat through credits.
In the end, if I was doing a standalone presentation - honestly, I would stick with ActivePresenter.
